Celebrating the life of
Robin Dennis Stockdale
July 22, 1954 - March 08, 2014
Robin Dennis Stockdale
7.22.1954 – 3.8.2014
He will live on forever in the hearts and minds of his family and friends. Steven Stockdale his son/little buddy; Candice Stockdale McLaughlin his daughter/little princess and her husband Johnny; Marilyn his life partner and angel; Michael, Robert, Xiaolu, Dianne, Jim, Midge and his beautiful dachshund Samantha.
Rob was one of the best in his business of ballroom dancing. He started dancing at the young age of 7, and was acknowledged for his talent receiving several dance awards during his life journey. Rob was president of the Brigham Young University dance team, a private university in Provo, Utah. An amateur champion before turning professional then became professional theater arts champion. He was teacher and owner of Southland Dance studio in Savannah, GA for 20 years. He assisted with choreographing the dance scene in the movie The Legend of Bagger Vance directed by Robert Redford starring Matt Damon, Will Smith and Charlize Theron. He touched so many lives with his passion for dance, and brought great joy to those who met him on the dance floor. Rob also served as a nationally certified Adjudicator and MC for many professional ballroom dance competitions across the nation, and was highly valued by others in the ballroom dance business. We pass this way but once, and Rob's life and passing reminds us all to live it to its fullest and soak up every last joy. We love him and will miss him dearly, and we are grateful for the years shared with him.

I had such a wonderful time learning from and dancing with Rob. He literally made my week - dancing, yes, but also laughing and sharing while we danced. Rob was 4 days older then me and he used to tease me about how being older made him so much 'wiser'. He always wanted the best for his students and made every effort to see that happen. I moved away from Coastal Georgia several months ago, so it has been a while since I've seen him but I've thought about our time together often and with much fondness. Godspeed, oh wise one. And my deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
- Darlene Griffith, Germantown, OH
Dearest Marilyn, When I think of Rob, the first thing that comes up in my mind is his beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor. He was my very first ballroom instructor and a great one at that!!! He made it so much fun. I am honored to have witness the happiness and much love that you both gave to each other. May the Lord give you strength and peace until you see Rob again. With love and respect, Elena

To Bunky's dear family- I am so sorry to hear of Bunky's passing. I danced with him from age of 8-16 here in Orem. I gained a fondness for him and his mom and dad. His dad use to call me 'little China-man', why I don't know because I'm Caucasion. I have so many fun memories of dance practises and dance reviews with Bunky. I saw the start of his ballroom dancing with his partner Julie Turner, and watched many performances and had a chance to dance with him too. A fabulous ballroom dancer even way back then!! I lost contacted with him after he graduated from high school but am thrilled to know he continued to live his life in dance and has a wonderful family! May the Lord bless you all at this time with peace and comfort. I will look forward to his greeting one day and maybe he will give me a spin!!

Rob... we will miss you immensely. You had a wonderful personality, easy to get along with, and to talk to and so kind. We always laughed when you would call in the winter and tell us how cold it was there, while we were freezing our tails off up in Idaho, and I always returned the favor when we'd call in the summer and hear how hot it was there while it was so beautifull here.... R.I.P. Rob Marilyn, our thoughts and prayrs will be with you... especially Saturday, wish we could be there. Ron & Eleanor

Rob was THE most finest person I have ever been honored to know. We shared many moments of joy, laughter, hard work, determination, achievement, and sadness in the years we worked dance competitions together. This wonderful man...touched the lives of countless people. And always with sincere words of wisdom and heartfelt thought. My heart screams of pain for your loss, Marilyn AND Sammy. The three of you were a triangle of endless love, devotion, and strength. You were both the precious joy to his everyday... 'Did you ever know that you're my hero? You're everything I wish I could be.' I thank God for sharing Rob with us ...with me.

Dear Marilyn and family, I was so deeply saddened to hear of Rob's Bunky's passing. Happy though, that two long lost cousins had recently reunited due to my daughter's love of dance. I knew he was the best to point her in the right direction. You were his angel, Marilyn, he told me several times....Keep dancin' Bunk! We love you.

It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to my friend and collegue. Marilyn , I can't begin to understand your sadness but understand well the love that you had for him and he had for you. I feel so blessed to have called him friend and so very grateful to have had him here in Augusta last month and in my life for the past 25 years. Our dancers at The Garden City Dance Challenge had the great benefit of being judged by one of the best in the business who ALWAYS had a kind word and a smile as they danced by. You, Mr. Stockdale, exemplified pure grace in everything you did and I will always miss you.
